Excellent first study Bible
I received my first Open Bible in 1983 from my father who is a minister. He said all preachers need a good study Bible. Well, I am not a preacher but I have wrote a few papers on subjects like; prayer and faith using the outlines in this Bible. It has a very excellent study guide that is in the middle of the Bible. Easy references guides and Bibical Index is so indepth. Will I ever buy another Open Bible? Most certainly YES!!!!!!

The CEV Devotional Bible "The Bible in a year"
This is the second one I have purchased for others. I have one myself. It is a wonderful, clear message bible, that is easy to read. I highly recommend it. I have read other "Bibles in a year" but this version is much clearer and easy to read.

Good summery of what the Assemblies of God believes
P.C. Nelson has done a wonderful job of explaining the doctrine of the Assemblies of God in an easy to understand and thin book. I really recomend this book to A/G ministers and laymen.

Bibleman Icb Bible

beyond my expectations for my son!
Finding a bible for my preschool son that he can grow into was tricky. Not quite reading and thus not quite ready for the New Adventure Bible, and yet growing out of the illustrated bible story books, this bible fills the void nicely. Do not be fooled by the photo inserts of stills from the Bibleman videos; the actual Bible itself is meaty in the Word and is written at a third grade level. It keeps my boy still enough to read him scripture. The notes are also impressive and I will admit to more than one occassion of dragging out my beloved NIV and my KJV bibles and comparing the translations. I have yet to be disappointed.

The introduction also proved to be enlightening as it described their translation methodology. I was very impressed by the pedogogy to keep it relevant to a "Y2K" 8 year old's level along with it not being a paraphrase version (thank goodness). As a mom who wants the Word to be part of our lives, a contemporary yet accurate version was just what we needed. It does more honor to the title "Bibleman" than the cute (albeit cheesy) videos do.

I am glad its filling a void!

The Boar (Subterranean Press Short Novel , No 2)
Published in Hardcover by Subterranean (December, 1998)
Authors: Joe R. Lansdale, Mark Nelson, and Lehman
Average review score:

Great early Lansdale!
This was a fabulous book! Lansdale is a great writer for many reasons one of which is his ability to write in so many different genres. Lansdale wrote The Boar very early in his career. In the introduction Lansdale discusses the genesis of the story and the journey to get it published. This alone was very interesting.

The story itself is a well-written period piece. It takes place in Texas during the depression. It is the story of a 15 year old boy and an almost mythical wild boar that threatens his family.

Break Their Haughty Power: Joe Murphy in the Heyday of the Wobblies
Published in Paperback by Ism Pr (April, 1996)
Authors: Eugene Nelson and Liz Penniman
Average review score:

Exciting adventure story about union organizing.
Break Their Haughty Power is one of my all-time favorite books. It makes you feel that you are there with the migrant workers in the 1920's. You can see why they would want a union like the IWW to deal with the lousy hand they had been dealt in life. It is very 3-dimensional, showing the problems and not just glorifying the union, which elevates it from propaganda to truly fine literature.
